U.S. lawmakers have urged President Biden to secure the release of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, detained in Nigeria since February on money laundering charges. Chairman Michael McCaul and 15 Congress members described Gambaryan’s imprisonment as harsh, noting his health is deteriorating. Despite a court order for hospital treatment following a malaria diagnosis, prison authorities have not fully complied. Gambaryan, formerly a U.S. IRS Special Agent, was hired by Binance in 2021 to enhance compliance. His detention follows Nigeria's SEC accusing Binance of illegal operations despite attempts by the crypto exchange to meet regulatory requirements.
