SEC Commissioner Calls for Custom S-1 for Digital Assets

At Korea Blockchain Week 2024, U.S. SEC Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda called for the creation of a dedicated S-1 registry for digital asset securities. He argued that the SEC has the ability to customize registration requirements for specific financial products, and this flexibility should extend to cryptocurrencies. Uyeda emphasized the importance of ensuring that issuers of digital asset securities are not required to disclose irrelevant or unavailable information. He also urged the SEC to define clearly which digital assets qualify as securities despite the absence of digital assets from Chairman Gary Gensler’s current agenda.
