Major Firms To Reveal Metaverse Plans at Gitex Global 2022

The world’s largest, most inclusive tech and start-up event Gitex Global, which runs from October 10–14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will be overtaken by the new emerging Metaverse platforms in light of the Dubai Government’s vision and roadmap to become one of the top 10 cities globally in the Metaverse Economy.

At the five-day event, which spans 26 halls and two million square feet—the size of 33 football fields—and attracts more than 4,500 companies and 100,000+ attendees from 170 countries, top UAE organizations from the public and private sectors will be vying to showcase their Metaverse strategy.

At Gitex Global, a number of companies, including the global technology conglomerate e& and the Dubai Airport Freezone, will present their Metaverse strategies.

With the beta release of “e& universe” at this week’s Gitex, e&, the organization formerly known as Etisalat Group, becomes the next major UAE company to embrace the metaverse.

Metaverse technology may be in the early incubation stages, given that it needs high-bandwidth and low-latency communications to work at scale, says Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO, e&.

Etisalat by e&’s business center, where e& is showcasing the future of retail using a 3D retail experience, and the Metaverse Service, a platform designed to maximize user experience through multiple virtual spaces and avatars, are the company’s other two major showcases at Gitex.

With the introduction of METADAFZ, Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ) is prepared to enter the metaverse to lure foreign direct investment and businesses to the free zone by showcasing DAFZ’s offerings, products, and services.

The initiative provides an alternative to conducting business activities (such as virtual meetings) by providing a “unique and semi-realistic” experience.

The government of Dubai recently unveiled its Metaverse Strategy, which aims to promote innovation and the use of cutting-edge technologies to increase the Metaverse sector’s contribution to the emirate’s economy to $4 billion by 2030.
