ConsenSys, the firm behind the popular web3 wallet Metamask, has launched Soulflake, an experimental web3 social utility platform that lets users create soulbound NFT greetings cards on the Polygon blockchain. The dapp has been developed by ConsenSys Innovation Lab and will be free to use, except for the gas fees charged by the Polygon network.

NFT season

Soulbound tokens (SBTs) are non-transferable and non-tradable NFTs that may only be issued to and held by a single wallet. What makes them unique is that they can reflect and manage web3 social identities and relationships in a verifiable and unique way, without the perils of centralization or the pitfalls of price speculation.

Users can mint their soulbound NFT greeting cards by using their Metamask wallet and connecting it to the soulflake platform by visiting  https://soulflake.xyz. As of now, the dapp is only available on the Polygon network.

Once connected, users can choose a theme and customize the color, title, and message on the NFT. Furthermore, users can also send MATIC, Polygon’s native token, alongside their greeting cards. The NFTs can be sent to a supported wallet address, ENS, or Lens handle of the recipient.

The dapp has no fees associated with using it, but senders must pay a small “burn allowance” in $MATIC tokens in advance to prevent spam. In case a recipient does not wish to keep a soulflake card, they are given the option to burn it. This not only provides the receiver more say over what stays in their wallet, but it also discourages senders from sending anything rude or unsolicited.

The launch comes days after ConsesnSys joined hands with payments giant PayPal to offer U.S. Metamask users a convenient to buy Ethereum using fiat. Users can use PayPal within MetaMask by logging in, tapping the “buy” button, selecting PayPal, and then entering the amount of ETH they want to buy or transfer.
