Ripple CTO Warns of Phishing Scams on X Platform

David Schwartz, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, issued a warning about a new phishing scam on X (Twitter). Schwartz emphasized the deceptive nature of a message that has been circulating among X users.

As per the announcement from the fake support team, the user’s accounts are being investigated for copyright violations. A link was provided in the message asking the users to submit feedback. It also warned about the possibility of account suspension in case of failure to fill the document.

The History of the Scam

However, Schwartz clarified that these messages are fraudulent. In his recent X post, Schwartz cited, “If you receive a DM anything like this, it is fake.” He explained that the link included in the message redirects to a phishing site designed to harvest users’ login credentials and personal information.

Historical Context of Phishing Scams in Crypto

Ripple executives have a lot of experience dealing with scams. Previously, Ripple’s CEO was targeted by scammers who used deep fake technology to create videos showing him promoting a cryptocurrency doubling scheme.

Ripple and Its Ongoing Battle Against Misinformation

Schwartz, who has often had to dismiss rumors falsely identifying him as Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, uses these instances to educate the public on the risks associated with digital communication and cryptocurrency dealings. His efforts underscore the broader challenges facing public figures in the tech and crypto industries, maintaining privacy and integrity amidst the chaos of online misinformation.

The Ripple team offers users key points to keep in mind: they verify the authenticity of any communication received on social media, refrain from clicking on unsolicited links, and report any suspicious activities to the platform’s support team.
