Coinbase, Coinbase Wallet, and Build on Base have announced their latest efforts to revolutionize blockchain accessibility for users and developers alike. The Coinbase-led projects have come together to create an open, permissionless, and performant Layer 2 (L2) that enhances the existing decentralized ecosystem rather than forcing something into a separate centralized silo.
Max Branzburg, Vice President, Head of Consumer Products at Coinbase, emphasized the importance of crypto in enabling a thriving, open, on-chain economy where developers around the world can build amazing products and protocols that are used by consumers and businesses everywhere without the risk of censorship, rent extraction, or debasement.
By leveraging advancements in Ethereum and the OP Stack, the companies have created an L2 that developers love – perfectly compatible with the rest of the EVM ecosystem, low-cost, and expanding access to reach over 100 million Coinbase users.
This L2 will enable 1 million builders to build amazing dApps on Build on Base, bringing 1 billion users on-chain and accelerating the growth of an open, thriving, on-chain economy.
On the consumer side, Coinbase has been hard at work making on-chain experiences safe, accessible, and easy to use for those 100 million+ users. The main Coinbase app now has a dApp wallet that enables seamless usage of any dApp in the ecosystem, lowering barriers to entry for folks moving on-chain for the first time.
Additionally, Coinbase wallet has set a new high watermark for self-custody wallets, offering both a browser extension and mobile wallet with support for hardware wallets, industry-leading safety features, aggregate portfolio management, free decentralized identity, and more.
