Anthony Pompliano Calls for Twitter Bitcoin Integration

Cryptocurrency entrepreneur and influencer Anthony Pompliano (Pomp) has called out Elon Musk on Twitter recently, suggesting that Twitter needs to accept Bitcoin if the billionaire investor is looking to integrate cryptocurrency payments on the popular social networking platform.

Twitter and Cryptocurrencies

As of last year, Twitter was the first major social network to implement a system enabling users to tip producers on the platform using Bitcoin. The Strike app, a Bitcoin wallet that leverages the Lightning Network protocol, made bitcoin tipping possible on the platform.

The Lightning network was designed to make Bitcoin transactions quicker and cheaper. Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter and a vocal proponent of Bitcoin, has invested in the project.

According to Pomp, Bitcoin is “the only payment network” that can instantaneously microtransactions at a large scale. Furthermore, he adds that the move is quite expected since Twitter already supports Bitcoin tipping.

Twitter tipping already allows users to send USD or BTC over the Bitcoin network, so natural extension.

The Twitter community was divided on this suggestion, with many suggesting some altcoins which they think would be a better option.

Musk’s Plan

Meanwhile, Musk reportedly has different plans for Twitter. Musk has advocated integrating cryptocurrency payments into Twitter’s existing system. Despite his silence on the matter, he has hinted that he may utilize payments to transform the service into an “everything app” that is “so compelling that you can’t live without it.”

Meanwhile, Twitter appears to be concentrating on integrating cryptocurrency wallets into its infrastructure, suggesting the social media giant is already developing tools in line with Musk’s aspirations. Given Musk’s previous comments, it should not come as much of a surprise that Twitter will eventually allow Dogecoin payments.
