Ethereum‘s zkSync Era Mainnet has finally arrived! After months of testing, auditing, and hard work, the team has announced the Fair Onboarding Alpha, where registered projects can now deploy on the mainnet. This is an exciting milestone for zkSync and the entire Ethereum community.
To mark this new milestone, the team has renamed zkSync 2.0 to zkSync Era. The mission is to accelerate the mass adoption of crypto for personal sovereignty, and the name Era represents a new phase in crypto adoption. They have also created a clear distinction between the two versions of their Ethereum scaling solution by renaming zkSync 1.0 to zkSync Lite.
During Fair Onboarding Alpha, registered projects will have the opportunity to deploy and test their applications on zkSync Era. Mainnet will remain closed to end users during this stage to allow people to deploy and test their applications in a closed environment before opening them to external users.
With zkSync Era now open-source under MIT/Apache 2.0 license, the developers believe that open-sourcing the technology will help accelerate the mass adoption of their ZK-rollup and establish zkSync Era’s zero-knowledge prover as the gold standard.
ZkSync’s implementation of ZK-rollups also offers several advantages compared to other scaling solutions, such as optimistic rollups. ZkSync rollups offer faster finality, allow for higher transaction throughput, and do not require developers to make significant changes to their smart contract code.
The team at zkSync asserts that they are committed to being transparent about the next milestones and providing an overview of the protocol roadmap. They also stress that security remains their top priority, and they are investing in audits and bug bounty programs to ensure the system’s safety.
