FBI: US Crypto Fraud Losses Hit $5.6B in 2023

The FBI's latest report reveals that cryptocurrency-related fraud in the U.S. reached an all-time high in 2023, with losses surpassing $5.6 billion. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received over 69,000 complaints, with 71% of the losses due to crypto exploitation. Investment fraud accounted for the majority of cases, seeing a 45% rise compared to 2022. Technical support scams, government impersonation, and call center fraud also contributed. California was the worst-hit state, losing over $1.1 billion, followed by Florida, Texas, New York, and Washington.
