Matter Labs’ zero-knowledge zkSync Era is live for general users to “Experience the future-proof zkEVM.” Per zkSync, the zkSync Era “delivers Native Account Abstraction, Powerful LLVM Compiler, and Data Compression” features.
Essentially a virtual machine, the zkEVM or zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine generates zero-knowledge proofs for program verification. zkEVMs tend to execute smart contracts whilst also supporting zero-knowledge technology.
In a detailed Medium.com blog post, zkSync notes, Today marks a big milestone for zkSync Era and Ethereum: the gates to the world’s first zkEVM Mainnet are now open in a permissionless manner for everyone to use
Sharing the groundbreaking development, zkSync tweeted:
gm zkEVM! 👋🏻

Alex Gluchowski, CEO, Matter Labs, said, ZK Rollups are the holy grail of scaling Ethereum, but obviously, only if you can preserve compatibility with the existing ecosystem.
A zkSync tweet states, “We’ve spent $3.8M to secure zkSync Era, including:
✅ 7 independent security audits by T1 auditors
✅ 3 internal audits
✅ 2 public security contests
✅ Open-ended bug bounty program
✅ Open-sourcing zkSync Era code.
Claiming to have “completed robust testing, multiple tier-1 security audits, public contests, and bug bounties,“ Matter Labs also assures of “independent monitoring and risk mitigation mechanisms.” zkSync is inviting “developers, projects, and users“ to “build on and bridge funds to experience the power of zkEVM.”
Launched in February 2023 for developers, the project opened the doors to general users on Friday. Notably, Matter Labs’ rival Polygon has also reportedly planned to table its own “zero knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine” on Monday.
Reportedly, per Gluchowski, approximately 200 projects are set for deployment on zkSync Era’s ZK Rollup. He says zkSync Era would have a native Account Abstraction, letting users feel a more conducive experience. Users would reportedly define their respective ways of paying their gas fee (not limited to paying in ether).
