Meta Announces NFT Sharing on Facebook for US-Based Users

After much anticipation, Instagram’s parent firm Meta recently revealed that the long-awaited introduction of its digital collection feature to its billions of users had finally arrived.

Per a September 29 announcement, Meta is now allowing all its US-based users to connect their digital collectible wallet to the social networking platform and share their favorite NFTs. Previously this feature was only limited to Instagram, and even now, this feature is limited to only US-based users.

The social network’s other users in over 100 nations across Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East can only access the feature via Instagram as of now.

NFTs on Facebook

By linking their digital wallet to either Facebook or Instagram, users may show off the digital items they’ve purchased or created. Depending on the users’ respective privacy settings, the data will be exchanged between the two platforms.

Sharing of digital collectibles across Facebook and Instagram will not incur any additional costs.

Using data from compatible public blockchains, the feature also enables automatic tagging of both the NFT creator and collector to the post.

Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow are among the blockchains that are currently supported. Users need third-party wallets like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet, etc, in order to gain access to the blockchains.

To connect their wallets, users must go to the “digital collectibles” section of the app’s settings on either Facebook or Instagram.

The announcement comes just a day after the news that the CEO of the firm, Mark Zuckerberg, sold an NFT of his childhood baseball card for $105,000.
