Milkomeda is set to introduce a new feature that will allow Cardano users to use Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) contracts, making Cardano one of the largest EVM chains by user count.
The Milkomeda C1, a Cardano-based EVM sidechain, will be improved with additional capabilities that will allow users to connect with dApps and other EVM-based smart contract-based services without leaving the Cardano ecosystem. This new feature will enable all Cardano users to utilize Ethereum-compatible smart contracts directly from any Cardano wallet, using just ADA.
Sebastien Guillemot, Milkomeda’s co-founder and Chief Technical Officer, announced the bullish development in a tweet, adding that Milkomeda is deploying the new functionality, which would instantly make Cardano one of the largest EVM chains in terms of user count. It is crucial to note, however, that the feature will only be available for dApps hosted on Milkomeda.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson also responded to the development with a gif that says, “Yes”.

These contracts’ transactions and activities will be carried out utilizing ADA, increasing the asset’s utility. This is crucial because it enables Cardano users to engage in the Ethereum ecosystem without the need to acquire or utilize ETH. Guillemot also revealed that the Milkomeda C1 would enable staking for all EVM users, including smart contract developers, who will get staking incentives every five days for developing on the Cardano-based EVM sidechain.
Milkomeda C1 EVM Sidechain
To facilitate communication between Cardano and Ethereum-based initiatives, the Milkomeda C1 EVM sidechain was developed as a blockchain-based solution. This requires the project to be launched on Milkomeda C1 and the users to employ a permissionless bridge to enable communication.
With the growing need to bolster interoperability with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, several blockchains are now turning to sidechains like Milkomeda C1 to allow users of other blockchains to interact with Ethereum-based dApps. The Milkomeda C1 EVM sidechain has already gained support from several Cardano wallets, including NuFi and FlintWallet, which announced their support for the sidechain two months ago.
