Polygon Labs and Immutable, two of the leading names in the world of Ethereum gaming, are joining forces to develop a dedicated gaming blockchain using zero-knowledge technology. The new platform, Immutable zkEVM, is an EVM-compatible ZK-rollup powered by Polygon technology that will accelerate decentralized game development and bring Web3 one step closer to mass adoption.
According to Delphi Digital, Polygon Labs and Immutable are “the undisputed champions of Ethereum gaming.” The partnership will provide game developers with the fastest and most direct path from concept to launch, simplifying the decision-making process and opening up the largest and most liquid ecosystem for end users.
Immutable zkEVM will make developing Web3-enabled games faster, easier, and less risky for large game studios and independent developers. It will be fully supported by the Immutable platform, and game developers can begin early integration with Immutable zkEVM starting today by accessing early documentation.
The announcement comes at a crucial time for Web3, with half of all blockchain activity in 2022 coming from games and three-quarters of game developers expecting to work on Web3 games in the future. The partnership will enable developers to create rich and unique gaming experiences and will unlock numerous new use cases that were previously untenable.
The Polygon network is home to some of the biggest blockchain gaming projects and publishers, including Ubisoft, Atari, Animoca, Decentraland, Somnium Space, and The Sandbox. With over 220 million unique user addresses, the Polygon ecosystem is home to tens of thousands of decentralized apps and major global enterprises like Robinhood, Stripe, and Adobe.
Immutable has been at the forefront of Web3 gaming with its one-stop-shop gaming platform, which developers can use to easily and quickly create and launch Web3 games with built-in blockchain mechanics. The Immutable tech stack has been leveraged by many native Web3 and legacy game projects, including Gods Unchained, Guild of Guardians, Illuvium, Delysium, EmberSword, and GameStop, which selected the Immutable network for its gaming platform.
