  • Binance plans to airdrop $1.5M in BNB for earthquake victims in Myanmar and Thailand.
  • CZ has pledged 500 BNB tokens for relief efforts in the earthquake-affected areas.
  • During humanitarian crises, cryptocurrency provides immediate and transparent support.

Binance Charity, in collaboration with Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, will airdrop up to $1.5 million in BNB to Binance users in Myanmar and Thailand. This initiative aims to assist individuals affected by the recent devastating earthquake. The airdrop will be based on user verification data, with recipients identified through their KYC and POA information. Users who completed KYC or POA by March 31, 2025, will receive BNB tokens directly to their Rewards Hub. The aid is expected to be distributed by April 14, 2025.

Binance’s Commitment to Earthquake Victims

According to a recent report, Binance Charity will distribute the BNB funds based on the users’ verification status and geographical location. Users in Myanmar who have completed KYC will receive $5 in BNB, while those in the most affected areas will receive $50 in BNB.  Additionally, Gulf Binance users who have completed KYC with proof of address will receive $5 in BNB, with those in the most affected areas eligible for $10.

This initiative, which is a collaboration between Binance Charity and CZ, highlights the ongoing efforts to support affected communities during times of crisis. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has pledged to personally donate 500 BNB to support relief efforts in Myanmar and Thailand. His donation is part of Binance Charity’s broader mission to provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the earthquake.

Binance CEO Richard Teng expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and reaffirmed Binance’s commitment to using blockchain technology for transparent and efficient relief distribution. Binance Charity has a track record of supporting regions in need, having previously launched initiatives in Spain, Turkey, Argentina, Libya, and Vietnam.

The Role of Cryptocurrency in Humanitarian Aid

The use of cryptocurrency as a means of humanitarian assistance is becoming increasingly significant. Traditional aid can be delayed due to banking limitations and logistical challenges, especially in areas affected by natural disasters.

Cryptocurrency is the answer, as it allows instant, transparent, and cross-border transactions. So, when it comes to cases of emergency relief, it’s the best possible way to ensure that aid reaches those who require it most without the usual delays. The efficiency of blockchain technology was already proven in previous disaster relief campaigns, for instance, in the Turkey-Syria earthquake in 2023 and the Maui wildfires.

Not just that, organizations like The Giving Block or Save the Children have been proponents of blockchain donations as a fast and efficient way to pass on humanitarian aid. They know how cryptocurrencies could change the landscape of humanitarian disbursements, making it possible for monetary relief to arrive in the hands of victims much faster and safely.
