Google has shared its enthusiasm for deepening its longstanding partnership with Reddit. In their blog post, Google wrote,
Reddit plays a unique role on the open internet as a large platform with an incredible breadth of authentic, human conversations and experiences, and we’re excited to partner to make it even easier for people to benefit from that useful information.
An earlier Bloomberg report unveiled Reddit’s deal with an unnamed large AI company to train its AI models. According to the deal, Reddit has signed an agreement worth about $60 million on an annualized basis, availing its content to the AI giant.
Reddit’s update stated that the alliance would provide Google “programmatic access to new, constantly evolving, and dynamic public posts, comments, etc., on Reddit. In addition, Reddit cited,
This enhanced collaboration provides Google with an efficient and structured way to access the vast corpus of existing content on Reddit and enables Google to use the Reddit Data API to improve its products and services – including supporting new ways to display Reddit content and providing more efficient ways to train models.
Further, Reddit assured that the partnership does not alter Reddit’s existing API Terms or Developer Terms. Moreover, the platform asserted, “Our work with Google will make it easier for people to find, discover, and engage in content and communities on Reddit that are most relevant to them.”
