The Uniswap Foundation has announced its plans to launch Uniswap v4 soon after the Dencun upgrade was implemented smoothly on Ethereum. The foundation took to X to announce the tentative schedule for the release of Uniswap’s version 4 protocol is set for the third quarter of this year.
Currently, in the “Code Freeze” phase, the organization is actively engaged in core code completion, testing, gas fees, security enhancements, and finalization of the rest. This process defines their commitment to delivering what they believe should be the ‘most rigorously audited code ever deployed on Ethereum’.
In the next phase, the Uniswap Foundation will subject v4’s code to scrutiny from audit firms and a community audit contest. Simultaneously, the decentralized exchange (DEX) will undergo deployment on the testnet, allowing the team to make final adjustments before the anticipated Ethereum mainnet launch in the third quarter of 2024.
It’s crucial to note that this timeline is tentative and contingent on the status of the Dencun upgrade on Ethereum. The Dencun upgrade, activated on the Goerli testnet on January 17, introduces significant Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including EIP-4844, designed to enable proto-dank sharding and reduce layer 2 transaction fees. While the Goerli deployment faced a four-hour delay, the Sepolia testnet deployment on January 31 proceeded without any problems. The Holesky testnet deployment on February 7 marked the completion of the third testing phase.
Ethereum developer Tim Beiko announced on February 8 that the Dencun upgrade is set to reach the mainnet at “slot 8626176.” According to blockchain research firm Nethermind, this milestone is anticipated on March 13, 2024, at 13:55:35 UTC.
Ethereum developers made the decision following the successful Holesky testnet deployment. The alignment of Uniswap v4’s launch with this significant Ethereum upgrade speaks about the evolution of DeFi protocols within the Ethereum ecosystem.
