BitKeep Security Breach Causes  $8M in Assets To Be Stolen

On December 26, it was revealed that the Web3 multi-chain wallet BitKeep was suspected of a security breach that caused BitKeep users’ wallets to leak, and some users in its official Telegram group claimed that their funds were stolen.

The cause of this large-scale hacking attack has been identified as an extremely bad mass theft incident, according to a BitKeep announcement in the Telegram group. Hackers have taken control of some APK package downloads. If a user’s money is stolen, the app they download or update is an unofficial release version.

The platform advises users to transfer funds to wallets downloaded from other official stores (App Store or Google Play). Furthermore, users should use the newly generated wallet address because the address generated by the apk can be leaked to hackers.

According to PeckShieldAlert, approximately $8M in assets have been stolen from BitKeep wallet so far, including approximately 4,373 $BNB, 5.4M $USDT, 196k $DAI, and 1,233.21 $ETH.

According to OKLink, Hackers are mixing coins via SideShift and FixedFloat and have already transferred 652 BNB and 70,000 DAI.

In order to freeze the hacker’s addresses and the stolen funds, BitKeep hopes that users will contact Yi He, CZ, and BNB Chain on Twitter and other social media platforms as soon as possible.

This is not the first time that BitKeep’s multi-chain wallet has been hacked. The BNB Chain was the target of an attack that targeted the BitKeep Swap multi-chain wallet on October 18 that, cost about $1 million in damage.

The user compensation plan was finished by the end of October, and BitKeep vowed to fully refund all affected users.

The platform also recently launched WalletConnect, a Web 3.0 communication protocol that has been linked to the BitKeep multi-chain wallet, recognising BitKeep as an important component of the “Wallet + dApp” ecosystem.

This will enable users to securely interact with all connected dApps by scanning a QR code on the browser or navigating to the APP using Deep Linking.
