Singapore Police Honours Binance for Cybersecurity Efforts

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has received formal recognition from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for its contributions to cybersecurity. The exchange earned an appreciation award during the annual Alliance of Public PrivAte Cybercrime sTakeholders (APPACT) networking dinner. The award acknowledges the exchange’s proactive efforts in helping law enforcement combat digital threats in an increasingly complex cybersecurity landscape.

Binance was among the 18 prominent companies honored by SPF’s CyberCrime Command (CCC). Other industry leaders receiving the award included major technology companies such as Google, Mastercard, Meta, Microsoft, and PayPal.

During the event, Mr. Zhang Weihan, Acting Deputy Commissioner (Investigation & Intelligence) and Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of SPF, acknowledged the vital contributions that private sector stakeholders make to cybercrime investigations. His speech emphasized how collaboration between law enforcement and industry leaders strengthens Singapore’s digital defenses against emerging threats.

The APPACT Appreciation Awards specifically recognize companies that have made meaningful contributions to cybersecurity efforts. This includes better investigative capabilities and supporting crime prevention initiatives. Binance’s award is an example of its ongoing commitment to working alongside law enforcement agencies to build a safer digital ecosystem.

Akbar Akhtar, Binance’s Head of Investigations for APAC, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He stated, “Receiving the APPACT Appreciation Award is an honor for Binance, and we are deeply grateful to the Singapore Police Force for recognizing our team’s efforts in combating cybercrime. He also mentioned their belief that effective security requires collaboration.

This recognition from Singapore authorities follows several other acknowledgments of Binance’s security collaboration efforts across Southeast Asia. Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) recently recognized the exchange’s support in Operation Cyber Guardian, an international initiative targeting cybercriminal networks. 

Similarly, Indonesia’s Directorate of Cyber Crime awarded Binance an appreciation medal for its ongoing contributions to cybercrime investigations in the country. The exchange’s commitment to cybersecurity extends well beyond Southeast Asia. Throughout 2024, Binance’s specialized security teams responded to nearly 65,000 law enforcement requests worldwide.
